Puppy with ‘Ted Lasso’-themed name found ‘abandoned’ at soccer field. He needs a home
A playful puppy was found “abandoned at a soccer field” — and now has a “Ted Lasso”-themed name.
Roy Kent the dog is up for adoption after he was rescued from a park, according to a North Carolina animal organization.
“He was microchipped, but his previous owners apparently moved to Florida and left him behind,” Peak Lab Rescue wrote Sept. 17 on Facebook. “We think you will agree that this sweet fella deserves better! Roy is ready to win you over with his stunning good looks and affectionate personality.”
The pup needs a new home after he was found as a stray in Cary, west of Raleigh. The person “caught up to him” near soccer fields and started calling him Roy Kent, an angry character on the soccer-themed TV show “Ted Lasso,” according to details the rescue shared with McClatchy News via email.
“Unlike my namesake Roy Kent, my manners are pretty good,” the shelter said in an adoption profile written from the dog’s perspective. “I’m fully house trained and good on a leash. I love to play and cuddle.”
Roy also is described as a “velcro” dog who’s 9 months old. The person who found the pup was a foster parent for the Peak Lab Rescue.
“Our foster reached out to the person who the dog was registered to and they had moved to Florida and gave the dog to someone else who then apparently let him go,” rescue administrator Leslie Haller wrote in the email. “They no longer wanted the dog and signed a surrender form so we could provide the care he needed.”
As of Sept. 18, Roy is still available for adoption in the Raleigh suburb of Apex. More details about the rescue’s adoption process can be found at peaklabrescue.com.
“Don’t you dare settle for fine, adopt me and you’ll feel like you’ve been struck by lightning,” the rescue wrote, in a nod to a line from “Ted Lasso.”
