Missing 8-year-old girl drove mom’s car to Target and went shopping, Ohio cops say
A missing 8-year-old girl was found safe after police in Ohio said she took her mom’s car and drove it to a Target.
Around 9 a.m. Sept. 15, officers were called to a home in Bedford for reports of a missing 8-year-old girl and a missing 2020 Nissan Rogue, according to a police report.
Family members told police the girl was last seen around 7 a.m., the Bedford Police Department said.
Officers then spoke to a neighbor who provided surveillance footage that showed the girl leaving the home, driving the SUV by herself, police said.
Police received a call reporting a small child was seen driving in a vehicle matching the description of the SUV.
Bainbridge police then reported that the SUV was found in a Target parking lot, police said.
“That’s right an 8-year-old took mommy’s car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop,” Bedford police said in a Facebook post.
Google Maps shows the Target is about a 10-mile drive from the girl’s home.
The girl was found inside the store, police said.
“Thankfully she made it and was immediately located by Bainbridge Police. She’s now home safe,” police said.
Police said the girl told officers she struck a mailbox while driving.
Bedford is about a 15-mile drive southeast of Cleveland.
