Man buys scratch-off while running errands with mom in Maryland. Then he went ‘pale’
A man was “thrilled” after learning his scratch-off held a top prize, Maryland officials said.
The man was running errands with his mom when they stopped at a Bel Air convenience store, according to an Aug. 21 news release by the Maryland Lottery.
The man ended up buying a Lots of Cash ticket and checking it in the store, officials said. He had no idea the scratch-off game was carrying a $50,000 prize.
At first, the man didn’t understand what the scanner’s “See Lottery” message meant so he asked an employee to confirm, officials said.
“I was so happy,” he told lottery officials. “My mom said I went pale and was smiling ear to ear. This win couldn’t come at a better time. I recently lost my grandfather. This win has lifted my spirits.”
The lucky winner plans to use the money for bills and to buy a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle, officials said.
His win means there are five $50,000 top prizes left to be claimed, officials said.
Bel Air is about a 30-mile drive northeast of Baltimore.
