A New Jersey man was indicted after officials said he brutally attacked his girlfriend with a machete, killing her.

Alex Williams, 25, is charged with “one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (machete) and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon,” according to an Aug. 20 news release from the Office of the Monmouth County Prosecutor.

The charges stem from a May attack that left 29-year-old Brianna Greenwood dead in Wall Township.

Attorney information for Williams was not available.

According to an affidavit obtained by Daily Voice, Williams called 911 around 9:22 a.m. May 23 and said he “just killed my girl.”

When Williams called 911 he told dispatchers he was “going to be compliant, just come get me,” Daily Voice reported. Court records said the couple had a history of domestic violence.

Another call was made to authorities from a woman who reported there was a man at her apartment complex attacking a woman yelling, “you cheated on me, you cheated on me you (expletive), you cheated on me,” the affidavit said, according to Patch.

Authorities later discovered Greenwood was attacked with a machete and suffered “multiple serious injuries,” according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

When officers found Greenwood, she was sitting against a car with gashes on her face and a “nearly severed” arm, according to Patch.

As first responders were helping her, Williams accused his girlfriend of cheating, according to Daily Voice.

“Despite an 18-hour surgery and her immense strength, she couldn’t overcome the extensive damage inflicted upon her body. She passed on May 30th 2024,” a GoFundMe page said. “ ... Brianna leaves behind two young children 3 and 8, one of whom witnessed the horrifying incident just a few feet away.”

The affidavit said Greenwood’s 3-year-old child was sitting in Greenwood’s car while the attack happened in the parking lot, according to Daily Voice.

“Brianna’s untimely departure serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of domestic violence. She, her children, and her family did not deserve to suffer at the hands of such cruelty,” the GoFundMe page said.

Williams is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
