With faces directed to the ground from 171-feet up, Six Flags Great America announced plans to send riders seeking that roller coaster thrill on a record-breaking ride in 2025.

The Wrath of Rakshasa will shatter world records, Six Flags said in an Aug. 15 news release. Featuring the world’s steepest drop at a 96-degree angle, the amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, plans to send people on a once-in-a-lifetime dive coaster ride.

The angle will surpass Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ dive coaster, the Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, which sends riders down a 95-degree, 15-story drop, McClatchy News reported in 2021.

Wrath of Rakshasa riders can expect to drop at speeds up to 67 miles per hour, officials said, with five inversions throughout, more than any other dive coaster in the world.

The dive coaster, designed by the company Bolliger & Mabillard, provides a free-falling experience. Riders’ torsos are secured during the ride as their legs dangle freely from the floorless ride.

Dive coasters can tilt riders at steep angles — like the 96-degree angle soon to be featured by the Wrath of Rakshasa.

Gurnee is about a 40-mile drive north of Chicago.
