Argument over ‘stinky feet’ leads to man shooting his dad in the face, Iowa cops say
A man shot his father in the face after they argued about the 48-year-old son’s “stinky feet,” according to Iowa police and news reports.
David Carpenter, 48, was charged with attempted murder and child endangerment following the Aug. 11 shooting in Burlington, according to the Burlington Police Department.
The father and son were in the living room of their home when the father told the 48-year-old he had “stinky feet,” according to a a criminal complaint obtained by The Hawk Eye. The two then began arguing “over family issues,” the publication reported.
Carpenter went to his bedroom to get a gun, and he and his father continued to argue once he came back to the living room, KCRG said, citing the court documents. Carpenter said he “accidentally” shot his dad, who was in a motorized scooter, police said.
Police said the father was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two children were inside the home at the time of the shooting, including one who was in the living room, WQAD reported.
The son was detained in the front yard of the home, police said. He was reportedly jailed on a $100,000 cash bond.
Burlington is about a 100-mile drive southeast from Cedar Rapids.
