A “dollar van” driver is accused of hurling an explosive device into a vehicle in a road rage outburst in New York City, leaving two injured.

Kevindale Nurse, 36, faces arson charges in an indictment filed Aug. 6 after the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York says he threw an explosive device into a Verizon utility truck. Nurse was driving with his 4-year-old son at the time, according to prosecutors.

“This dangerous and senseless attack on a busy intersection in the heart of Brooklyn was beyond the pale,” United States Attorney Breon Peace said in a press release.

Surveillance video showed Nurse driving “erratically” Jan. 31 before stopping the minibus next to the utility truck, opening the door and launching an explosive into the driver’s side window, according to officials.

Two Verizon repairmen working that day on high-speed data lines and fiber optic equipment were in the truck at the time and sustained multiple injuries from the blast, according to prosecutors. The van was also “extensively damaged,” according to the release.

“I commend the work of our NYPD investigators, along with our law enforcement partners at the ATF and the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, for their dedication and collaboration in bringing this accused criminal to justice,” NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban said in the release.

If convicted, Nurse faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years behind bars and up to 40 years in prison, according to the release.
