A man accused of killing his girlfriend, who was nine months pregnant, was arrested after fleeing to Southern California, police say.

West Covina police arrested Andrew Coleman, 33, in the death of his 37-year-old girlfriend, the San Mateo Police Department said in an Aug. 5 Facebook post.

Officers arrived at a San Mateo home after getting a call about a pregnant woman in “full arrest” around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, police said.

Paramedics told officers the woman, whose identity was not released, had been pronounced dead, as her body showed signs of death, as did her unborn child’s, according to police.

Evidence at the home, as well as witness statements, pointed investigators to the woman’s live-in boyfriend, Coleman, as a suspect in her death, which looked suspicious, police said.

Since Coleman was not at the home, police said they began using technology to track him.

Detectives learned Coleman left the home shortly after the women’s death and was driving toward Southern California, police said.

After requesting the help of Southern California authorities, West Covina police found Coleman’s car, according to police.

He was arrested and later booked into jail on a murder charge, police said.

San Mateo detectives flew to Southern California to interview Coleman, police said, adding that they are still investigating the case.

San Mateo is about a 20-mile drive south from San Francisco, and West Covina is about a 20-mile drive east from Los Angeles.
