Beautiful mini horse rescued from ‘deplorable conditions’ is on the mend. Meet Olive
A miniature horse is getting some much-needed love and pampering after being plucked from horrible living conditions by a Texas shelter.
“Olive is the cutest, isn’t she?” Julie Kuenstle with the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told McClatchy News in an email. “We are so grateful we were able to get to her in time and conduct a rescue.”
Meet Olive, one of the newest SPCA residents who was rescued from “deplorable conditions,” the Houston SPCA said in a Aug. 5 Facebook post. The shelter’s Equine team stepped in and were able to put Olive, a 15-year-old mini horse, on the path to wellness.
“Olive is now gaining weight, full of energy, and sporting a beautifully braided mane,” the group said in the Facebook post.
When Olive was found, she was emaciated, in need of dental work and underweight.
“According to one of our staff veterinarians, her weight was 136 when she arrived at our Equine Rescue Center on our campus on July 12,” Kuenstle said. “Average ideal weight for a mini should be around 200!”
Olive was also in pain from dental issues.
“Horses must have their teeth floated (gently filed) so sharp points don’t develop and cause pain in their cheeks. According to one of our staff veterinarians, Olive will need multiple corrective procedures,” Kuenstle said.
Olive is continuing her health journey, and she could be adopted in the future.
