A 64-year-old is facing prison time after pleading guilty to production of child pornography in California, federal officials said.

In 2021, John Mathew Piecuch of Hemet met a 12-year-old girl on Roblox while pretending to be a 13-year-old boy, according to a July 26 news release by the US Attorney’s Office.

Piecuch texted with the girl and persuaded her to send him sexually explicit photos of herself, prosecutors said.

He later convinced her to take and send sexually explicit photos of a 5-year-old girl, officials said.

The 12-year-old had deleted the iMessage conversations from her iPhone, but they remained on her iPad Mini, according to the criminal complaint.

The girl’s mother eventually found the texts on her iPad and contacted officers, officials said.

Piecuch is scheduled to appear in court on October 25 for sentencing, officials said.

He is facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years, prosecutors said.

Hemet is about a 90-mile drive southeast of Los Angeles.
