While picking up snacks for a canoe trip, a 68-year-old decided to buy a few lottery tickets.

After the drawing, David Constantakis and his wife went back to the Frankfort retailer to scan the tickets. When he scanned one ticket, the machine told him to “see the retailer.”

Confused, his wife decided to look up the winning numbers from the Fantasy 5 drawing. She carefully read them off — 08-17-18 — and then stopped.

“When she got to the last two numbers, she said: ‘If we have 24 and 29, we are going to be sitting pretty!’” the winner said.

Constantakis, of Wayne County, looked down at his winning ticket “in awe,” he told officials. He and two other lucky winners, who chose to remain anonymous, would be splitting a $697,974 prize, Michigan lottery officials said.

The 68-year-old recently claimed his winnings and posed for a photo with a giant check.

With his prize money, Constantakis plans to pay off his home, donate some of the winnings and then save the rest, he told officials.

Frankfort is about a 260-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
