90-year-old run over and killed by own Jeep, and 81-year-old injured, Texas cops say
A 90-year-old man died after being run over by his own Jeep, Texas police said.
El Paso police responded to a call about a collision involving a pedestrian at about 8:40 a.m. July 21, according to a news release from the police department.
Investigators learned a 90-year-old man reversed his 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee out of a driveway and then got out of the vehicle without putting it in park, police said.
He was hit and run over by the vehicle, police said.
An 81-year-old pedestrian tried to help the man and was also hit by the SUV, according to authorities.
The Jeep ultimately came to a stop after rolling into a different driveway and striking a utility trailer, police said.
The 90-year-old man died at the scene, and the 81-year-old was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not available.
Their identities have not been released.
