3-year-old left alone in hotel room wanders off and is hit by car, cops say. Mom charged
A 3-year-old left alone in a hotel room wandered outside onto a road and was hit by a car, Pennsylvania police said.
The child’s mother, a 26-year-old from Wheeling, West Virginia, is now facing charges, court records show.
The driver remained on scene and the child was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.
Officers responded June 22 to reports of a child struck by a vehicle on state Route 51 near an Econo Lodge, according to a June 23 Facebook post from the Jefferson Hills Police Department.
According to investigators, the child’s mother left the 3-year-old and a 2-year-old in a hotel room alone.
The children left the building and walked along the road before one of them was “struck by a passing vehicle,” police said.
The mom was arrested on June 23 on two counts of endangering the welfare of children, police said.
McClatchy News is not naming the mother to protect the identities of the children involved.
She was booked at Allegheny County Jail, according to authorities.
Jefferson Hills is about a 15-mile drive south from Pittsburgh.
