His story was crushing. But now, a vibrant pup whose bright personality was dimming will receive his happy ending thanks to the kindness of a stranger from many miles away.

Rosco, a 3-year-old brindle terrier mix, was at an Ohio shelter for 132 long days, which started to chip away at his energetic and loving personality, the Jefferson County Animal Shelter said in a June 9 post on Facebook.

“Rosco’s body tells a tale of sorrow and neglect,” the post sadly says. “His prominent kennel sores and scabs, caused by his constant “happy tail,” are a testament to his undying excitement whenever someone passes by his kennel, only to be left in crushing disappointment as they move on without him.”

The post continued to say that Rosco is smart and understands commands, but he was constantly overlooked.

“Even his playful nature with cats can’t hide the painful truth: the shelter, meant to be a temporary refuge, has become a heartbreaking prison,” the post continued. “His sores and his declining spirit are clear indicators that he needs a real home, a place where he can finally heal and be loved.”

Now Rosco has been adopted by a stranger from far away.

ROSCO is heading to Minnesota!” a June 13 post on Facebook read. “He has been here for 132 days and his adopter saw him online and said that’s my boy! He drove 15 plus hours to adopt him.”

Rosco’s new human even sponsored another dog at the shelter as well to give him a fighting chance to find his own home, according to the post.

People in the comment section were overjoyed at Rosco’s happy ending.

“Thank you thank you thank you. Enjoy your future adventures together!” one person said.

“Awe he’s going to have a great life! So happy for him,” another commented.

“Thanks for adopting and helping with others,” someone wrote. “May you two have a great friendship and lots of adventures. Congratulations Roscoe !!”

“How exciting!!!! Best wishes Roscoe!!” one person said. “You will be missed but enjoy your new home state & new family!! Thank you for adopting this precious young stud.”

“How awesome. It says a lot that this man, came this far for him and also sponsor another adoption. Good luck Roscoe,” another acknowledged.

Information about other pets in need of a home can be found on the shelter’s website.
