An investigation is underway after construction workers stumbled onto a body in a drainage ditch, Texas officials told news outlets.

Deputies responded to a call at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, for a body discovered in a ditch close to a construction site along FM 361 near Needville, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office told KPRC.

The site is a roughly 40-mile drive southwest from downtown Houston.

Investigators found a bicycle near the body, as well as debris from a vehicle, indicating that the person may have been biking along the road when they were fatally hit by a motorist, KHOU reported.

The individual had been dead for about a month, officials told KTRK.

McClatchy News reached out to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office on June 12 for more information.
