Woman, child found dead in submerged vehicle during missing person search, AL cops say
A search for three missing people in Alabama led to the discovery of a submerged vehicle containing only two bodies, officials said.
The search is on for a possible third person, according to the Eufaula Police Department.
A 4-year-old boy and two women believed to be ages 18 and 22 were reported missing on June 1, Eufaula Police Chief Danny Christ told McClatchy News in a June 11 email.
On June 9, officers received a call about a possible location of the missing people, police said in a June 10 news release.
At around 8:30 p.m., they arrived at the Old Creek Town Recreation Area in eastern Alabama, just across the border from Georgia, and found a vehicle submerged in about 12 feet of water, according to police.
Houston County rescuers were called in, and they pulled the vehicle out of the water to reveal the bodies of a young female and a male child inside, police said.
Christ told McClatchy News that police could not positively identify the people in the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Eufaula is about a 50-mile drive southwest from Columbus, Georgia.
