An argument between two brothers turned deadly when a 30-year-old man fatally shot his 28-year-old brother, Michigan police said.

The two were arguing over their family dog May 25 when Fredrick Delano Logan shot his brother, according to Farmington Hills police and The Detroit News.

Their mother called 911 saying her son, Ricky Williams III, had been shot in the chest, police said in a May 29 news release.

Logan fled the scene before police could get there, launching a massive search of the area, police said.

Williams was rushed to the hospital, but he later died of his injuries, police said.

The other brother was arrested the following day and charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony firearm, police said.

Logan pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment May 29, according to police. No bond was set. Attorney information for Logan was not listed.

Williams’ mother, Inika Williams, said he was an artist with a “passion for animals,” according to a GoFundMe. “He exemplified all that was good in the world.”

Logan is scheduled to appear in court June 5.

Farmington Hills is about a 25-mile drive northwest from Detroit.
