A woman told officers she stole a taco truck because she “wanted to help herself to some food,” California police reported.

Authorities received a call reporting the theft in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 15, the San Pablo Police Department said in a news release.

The owner told police he tried to chase his truck but lost sight of it, officers said.

Police began looking for the stolen truck and spotted it on the other side of the city about an hour later, officers said.

They found a 51-year-old Oakland woman inside, wearing one of the taco truck’s aprons and rummaging around the kitchen, police said.

The woman told officers she stole the truck to eat the food inside, police said. She was arrested and the taco truck returned to its owner.

San Pablo is about a 20-mile drive northeast of San Francisco.
