The treasurer of a women’s fraternity stole $200,000 from the organization and spent it on frivolous purchases, according to Indiana police and news reports.

Bryana Bunte, 41, was reportedly fired from Purdue University’s Phi Mu Fraternity in December 2022 after the alleged embezzling was noticed.

She was listed as the treasurer for the Delta Epsilon Building Corporation. Delta Epsilon is the name of Phi Mu’s chapter at Purdue.

Now, Bunte is charged with corrupt business influence and two felony counts of theft, according to court records filed March 25 in Tippecanoe Superior Court.

Bunte became treasurer of the women’s fraternity in 2018, and the alleged embezzling took place between October 2021 and December 2022, according to court records obtained by WXIN.

An affidavit obtained by Purdue’s student newspaper, The Exponent, showed Bunte wrote herself checks that paid out $190,000. She also loaded $17,000 to a prepaid company credit card, the student newspaper reported.

Authorities said Bunte used the money to buy her boyfriend drugs and a truck, WFLI reported. She also reportedly spent it on vacations and living expenses.

Bunte is due in court April 5, court records show.
