Lottery player’s wife wakes him from nap to tell him they won big — five times
A lottery player was taking a nap in Maryland when his wife woke him up to tell him they hit the jackpot — five times.
The husband and wife woke up early to run errands, and on the way, they placed some Pick 5 bets, the Maryland Lottery said in a March 8 news release.
The Carroll County man told lottery officials he doesn’t often play lottery games, but he was reviewing old winning numbers online and was struck by a certain combination.
He was “so struck by the numbers,” he decided to place five straight $1 bets with the same five numbers.
A few hours later, he learned he won five top prizes of $50,000, bringing his total to $250,000, lottery officials said.
His wife couldn’t wait for him to wake up from his nap later that day to tell him about their quintuple win.
“I’m feeling better than ever,” he said when he went to claim his prize at Maryland Lottery’s headquarters.
The man, who works as a delivery driver, told lottery officials he’s planning to retire soon, so he’ll put his winnings toward his retirement fund.
The Manchester convenience store that sold the couple the tickets will receive five bonuses of $500 each.
Manchester is in Carroll County, about a 35-mile drive northwest of Baltimore.
