Truck driver plays routine ‘special’ numbers — and wins extra-special birthday prize
A truck driver was going about his usual routine of playing midday lottery games before running errands when it finally paid off big time in Maryland.
The driver played the same “special” numbers he has used for a while now — 82484 — and won $50,000 on a $1 Pick 5 ticket when the numbers came out in that exact order, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 1 news release.
The Baltimore man didn’t realize he had won until the day after the drawing, officials said.
“I got up and immediately checked the numbers on the Lottery’s website,” he said. “I thought I’d win on Pick 3 or maybe Pick 4, but I never thought I would win on Pick 5.”
He considers it a belated birthday surprise — some of which he said he’ll share with his daughter.
“I just had a birthday earlier this month,” he said of the Jan. 26 win. “I couldn’t have asked for a better gift.”
