A shark in Iowa? See how one artist created a 20-foot monster out of snow
An Iowa artist sculpted a 20-foot-long “Great White Shark” out of snow in his front yard and posted it on Facebook for neighbors to enjoy.
It’s become a winter attraction in Iowa City, according to Facebook comments. Carlos Maldonado shared the shark’s location so locals could stop by and see it.
“This is so cool, talent & imagination, off the charts,” Terri Lee commented.
According to Maldonado’s Facebook post, the shark is 5.5 feet tall and its back fins are between 4 to 4.5 feet in height.
His inspiration was simple.
“I looked up snow sculptures,” he told CBS Iowa. “I didn’t really want to do anything plain. When I saw a shark online, I figured I could do that, so I gave it a shot and this is what we ended up with.”
Maldonado’s two sons also assisted with the project, according to CBS Iowa.
With many portions of Iowa under a blizzard warning, according to the Weather Channel, some hope Maldonado keeps the sculptures going.
“Getting ready for another large snow fall in the next couple of days. Wondering what Carlos is planning on doing to go with his fantastic whale. Can’t wait to see!” Claudia Tharp commented.
Iowa City is about 115 miles east of Des Moines.
