Deputies said Urive told investigators she killed her girlfriend.

Urive was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, deputies said.

One woman is dead and another is missing after a worried friend reached out for a wellness check, Florida deputies said.

The friend of a Weeki Wachee woman called her family when she hadn’t heard from or seen her in several days and was getting worried, according to a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The woman’s family called deputies to ask them to check the woman’s house around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, according to the release.

The family met deputies at the woman’s home and helped them get inside, deputies said.

Once inside, deputies found the woman in a bedroom, according to the release.

Deputies said the woman was “obviously deceased, as she was in the advanced stages of decomposition.”

The deputies “immediately noted suspicious circumstances,” surrounding the woman’s death, and brought in detectives and forensic specialists to take over the case, according to the release.

The cause of death for the woman has not been confirmed, deputies said.

As deputies began investigating, they learned that the woman’s girlfriend, 23-year-old Shauna Urive, could not be found.

She was entered into a national missing person’s database as a “missing endangered person” once her well-being could not be confirmed, deputies said.

The dead woman’s car, a 2005 silver Pontiac Grand Am with Florida license plates, was also missing from the residence, according to the release.

The car has been entered into the national stolen vehicle database, deputies said.

“If you know the whereabouts of Urive and/or the 2005 Pontiac, or if you believe you have information on this case, please contact the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit at 352-754-6830,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.

The investigation is ongoing.

Weeki Wachee is about 45 miles north of Tampa.
