Powerball player misses jackpot but wins $2M in South Carolina. Where was ticket sold?
A South Carolina lottery player is set to take home a big prize after winning $2 million in the Powerball game.
The lottery ticket proved to be lucky after it matched five out of the six numbers picked in the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Since the player chose the Power Play option, the prize doubled from $1 million to $2 million, the S.C. Education Lottery wrote in a news release.
The winner spent $3 on the ticket at a Quick Stop convenience store in Ravenel, roughly 20 miles west of the popular vacation destination of Charleston.
Though the ticket holder missed out on the estimated $557 million jackpot prize, the person still beat more than 1-in-11 million odds to score the nation’s biggest win the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
But as of about 10:45 a.m. Sept. 14, the winner hadn’t claimed the $2 million prize, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong told McClatchy News in an email. Now, players are encouraged to take a look at the numbers on their tickets.
“Check your tickets,” officials wrote. “More than 17,000 players in South Carolina hold tickets for prizes from $4 up to $2 million.”
The numbers picked in the Sept. 13 drawing were 22-30-37-44-45, with Powerball number 18.
In South Carolina, prize winners have about six months to come forward.
