Pair looking for dog’s owner finds man yelling for help. They may have saved his life
Two good Samaritans and a dog who broke loose from her chain helped save the life of a man in need of medical attention, authorities in Indiana said.
The pair came across the loose dog Saturday, Aug. 26 — National Dog Day — and wanted to help find her owners, according to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.
As the man and woman were going door to door, they heard someone yelling for help, the sheriff’s office said in an Aug. 28 Facebook post.
The man entered the home and found “an elderly male who needed immediate medical attention,” authorities said. He had been immobilized for at least two days.
The good Samaritans called 911, and the man was rushed to a hospital, according to the Facebook post. One of the first responders told deputies “that if he had not been found soon, the male may not have survived much longer.”
The dog was taken to animal control, where she was reunited with her owners and taken back home, officials said.
“Thank you to these good Samaritans for their kindness in caring about the dog but also potentially saving the elderly male,” the sheriff’s office said in the post. “Dogs truly are man’s best friend. Although it was not her owner, this pup breaking loose likely saved a life.”
Jennings County is about 70 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
