Property for sale has over 500 rooms — and no doubt has seen many drunk college students
Looking to relive those golden “Animal House” days? Or at least, rather, those late dorm nights? Excellent news — you can. But you’ll need $45 million.
The Mayflower Residence Hall was actually built as a “private facility” in 1968 before the University of Iowa purchased it and made it a dormitory. Now, the 523-room property with its 326,000-square-foot interior is on the market and looking for its next owner.
“It will be delivered to the buyer vacant in the summer of 2024,” the listing on Realtor.com says.
“The first floor has a C-store, ITC, several lounges, classrooms, meeting rooms and a gym. There are both management and maintenance facilities making property management self-contained. Sitting on 4.1 acres.”
According to the Hall’s website, the building was used to house over 1,000 students with 1 to 4 students per room and is on the east side of campus. It has a in-suit kitchens, study spaces, and a gym.
The Mayflower Residence Hall is being sold after the university received feedback from students regarding its housing and dining system in order to “improve student success and retention,” according to a news release from the school. This includes projects like remodeling some of the other residence halls. Mayflower was chosen to be put up for sale thanks to it being “the least-requested residence hall” among students.
Iowa City is about 115 miles east of Des Moines.
