21-year-old dad disappears after falling from boat into Lake Erie. Search suspended

A 21-year-old man who fell overboard from a 27-foot boat while on Lake Erie disappeared after he was separated by strong winds and current, officials said.

Crews with U.S. Coast Guard Station Marblehead in Ohio launched a search near South Bass Island at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11.

The search was suspended Wednesday evening after multiple agencies looked for the man for nearly 24 hours, according to a tweet from the U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes.

A friend identified the man as Samuel Ickes Jr. of Fremont, Ohio, according to cleveland.com.

“Sam has two sweet babies & his girlfriend Mckenzie, who want nothing more than for him to make it home,” Morgyn Vanover wrote on Facebook.

“COME HOME TO ME SAFE BABY PLEASE PLEASE,” Mckenzie Bryant wrote on Facebook. “(I) can’t live without you. (T)he babies need you!
