A puppy drank from a Chick-fil-A bowl after being rescued from a hot car in Georgia, an adorable photo shows.
The dog was seen taking the refreshing sips Monday, June 26, a day when the reported high temperature was 91 degrees in the Atlanta area.
“Our firefighters had to open a car to remove this poor guy,” the City of Decatur Fire Rescue department wrote on Facebook. “We should never have to do this to save a dog, so please do not leave them unattended.”
With the National Weather Service forecasting more warm temperatures, pet owners are urged to take steps to help avoid heatstroke in dogs. It’s best for people to take their furry friends out of their cars, as experts say “rolling down the windows is not a safe alternative.”
“Even in cool temperatures, cars can heat up to dangerous temperatures very quickly,” the National Weather Service said on its website. “Even with the windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise almost 20 degrees Fahrenheit within the first 10 minutes. Any pet left inside is at risk for serious heat-related illnesses or even death.”
Firefighters in their Facbeook post didn’t didn’t say how long the rescued dog had been in the car or what happened to the animal after the rescue. But they said the pup was OK and they made sure that its paws weren’t injured on the concrete.
The city of Decatur didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on June 28.
