Woman trapped down manhole is rescued from sewer, California firefighters say
A woman trapped down a manhole had to be rescued by firefighters, California authorities reported.
The Orange County Fire Authority said in a series of Twitter posts that firefighters were called out to a report of a woman stuck in a Santa Ana sewer at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, May 23.
They found the woman about 12 feet beneath a manhole, KTLA reported.
A technical rescue team used a rope system to pull the woman from the confined space, firefighters said. It’s not known how she ended up down the manhole.
“It’s not an easy place to access, but people do find their way into the sewer system sometimes and we’re here to help get them out,” Battalion Chief Chad Gremel told KTLA.
Firefighters took the woman to a hospital. No further information was available on her medical condition.
Santa Ana is a city of 310,000 people about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
