15-year-old standing in car to film from sunroof killed when car flips, Utah cops say
A 15-year-old boy died when a car flipped while he stood through the sunroof to film a video, Utah authorities reported.
The Hyundai Sonata crashed on a dirt road west of Richfield at about 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release. Officers blamed the crash on excessive speed.
The car flipped, pinning the teen beneath it, the Richfield Police Department said in a news release. He died at the scene.
Two other teen boys in the car, ages 14 and 16, suffered minor injuries, the Utah Highway Patrol said. Investigators are still working to determine who was driving.
Alcohol also may have been a factor in the crash, the agency said.
Richfield police said they turned the investigation over to the Utah Highway Patrol because of the severity of the crash.
Richfield is a city about 160 miles south of Salt Lake City.
