A 4.0 magnitude earthquake shook many Oklahomans awake on Thursday, April 6.

The quake happened around 4 a.m., roughly 2 miles east of Carney, Oklahoma — near Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and several other highly populated areas, U.S. Geological Survey data show.

Nearly 900 people reported feeling the earthquake, from the epicenter all the way to southern Kansas and western Arkansas, according to the USGS.

The 4.0 quake was followed by aftershocks, the largest of which registered a magnitude of 3.2. Three aftershocks measuring at 2.1 and below were also detected, all within 20 minutes of the initial 4.0 earthquake, and roughly in the same area.

Earthquakes measuring between 2.5 to 5.4 are “often felt, but only cause minor damage,” according to Michigan Technological University.
