Police are investigating after two people were killed in an apparent murder-suicide at an Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A, police and multiple news outlets report.

It happened at about 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, near the Truett’s Chick-fil-A in Rome, Georgia, police said in a news release. Investigators said a man shot a woman before turning the gun on himself.

The victims were identified as a 56-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, who police said were in “a domestic relationship.” Both died at the scene.

“Prior to arrival, officers received more information that the incident was a shooting rather than an accident,” police said.

The shooting allegedly unfolded in the restaurant’s drive-thru lanes, according to The Rome News-Tribune and Coosa Valley News. Investigators said the man shot the woman while she was in her car, then shot himself.

No other injuries were reported. A Chick-fil-A manager called the incident “horrific” and said the restaurant would close for the rest of the day.

Additional information wasn’t immediately available.

Rome is about 70 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
