A car careened off the road and into an Ohio home, killing a 69-year-old man sleeping inside, officials say.

The driver of a Subaru was traveling along a residential street in Green around 2:40 a.m. on Feb. 19, when she lost control, swerved across the street and finally crashed into a house, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

The man was asleep when the vehicle burst into the home, hitting him, the release said. He died at the scene.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman who lives in Green, was taken to a hospital for treatment, the release said.

She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, according to investigators, who said they believe high speed, alcohol and narcotics contributed to the crash.

“Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.

Green, a suburb of Akron, is roughly 10 miles south of the city’s downtown.
