Cop worked at Whole Foods while on the clock for hundreds of hours in DC, police say
A police officer worked hundreds of hours at Whole Foods Market while on the clock with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., officials said. He has been arrested and charged with fraud.
The officer, who also served as the D.C. Police Union vice chairman, worked 485 hours at Whole Foods while he was also on duty with the police department between 2021 and 2022, according to court documents.
He worked at three different Whole Foods locations throughout the city, officials said.
An attorney for the man could not immediately be reached for comment by McClatchy News.
For 248 hours, he was paid $53 per hour by the police department. And for 218 hours, he was paid the overtime rate of $79 per hour, documents show.
In total, the police department paid him $33,845 for hours he spent working at the grocery store.
He was arrested Saturday, Feb. 4, on the charge of first-degree felony fraud, according to WUSA9. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.
He had previously been investigated for “unwanted sexual contact” with another person at Whole Foods in 2022, according to DCist, and he resigned from his police union position nearly a year ago.
