A crash involving a truck hauling meatballs left one driver pinned for hours before rescue, officials in Virginia said.

Around 12:16 a.m. on Dec. 16 the Greensville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a crash on Interstate 95, according to a release from the department.

A tractor-trailer had veered off the road and hit a guardrail, Virginia State Police told WAVY. The truck jackknifed and the trailer detached, causing a crash with another tractor-trailer on the road, the outlet reported.

One of the trucks was carrying 40,000 pounds of meatballs in the trailer, which spilled across the pavement, WAVY reported.

The fire department discovered that one of the drivers had been pinned during the crash and it took two hours to pull him from the wreckage, according to the release.

“After a 2 hour extrication process, the driver was removed from the vehicle, miraculously with minor injuries,” the release said.

The pinned driver was taken away in an ambulance, according to the fire department.

Greensville county is about 75 miles south of Richmond.
