A 13-year-old girl is dead after the stolen car she was riding in slammed into a building during a police chase in Oklahoma, authorities said.

Police from two departments were pursuing the 2001 GMC Yukon as it came speeding into the small town of Sayre just before 3 a.m. on Dec. 4, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. It was raining and the streets were slick.

At that moment, the 15-year-old girl behind the wheel lost control and the SUV careened into a building, OHP said.

It took the town fire department half an hour to pull the 13-year-old passenger from the wreckage, and she was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries.

The older girl was taken to a hospital with injuries but in good condition, the report said.

Both teens are from Apache, which is roughly 100 miles southwest of Sayre.
