A couple’s car got stuck in the snow while on a scenic drive with their 2-year-old daughter, Utah authorities said.

The Orem family was on a drive “on Nebo Loop Road and down Santaquin Canyon” the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 23, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter.

“Not knowing Santaquin Canyon access was closed, they tried to leave that way,” the sheriff’s office said.

On the way back down the canyon, the family got stuck in two feet of snow “a mile above Camp Koholowo,” officials said.

After UCSO Search and Rescue arrived and drove the family back down Nebo Loop Road around 11 p.m., a rescue volunteer gave them a ride home, the tweet said.

While the family was “dressed well,” they “were not otherwise well prepared,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Santaquin Canyon is about 65 miles south of Salt Lake City.
