Three puppies were rescued from a burning home and revived thanks to an Amazon driver who noticed smoke and called 911, according to a Florida fire department.

The driver was delivering a package when she saw smoke coming from the home at around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and called 911, Columbia County Fire Chief Jeff Crawford told McClatchy News through the department’s public information officer.

When firefighters arrived, they found three puppies alone inside and got them out.

“Since the homeowner was not at home at the time, she saved the home and the puppies lives,” the fire department said in a statement.

Firefighters contained the fire to the room where it started and worked to revive the puppies, who were suffering from smoke inhalation, Crawford said.

Columbia County is about 150 miles northwest of Orlando.

“Anything suspicious, it doesn’t hurt to call 911 and have us check it out,” Crawford said.

Owen Torres, a spokesman for Amazon, called the driver’s efforts “heroic.”

“Thanks to this driver’s heroic efforts, these puppies are safe and sound with their owner,” the statement says. “We’re so proud and grateful to work with her, and all of the amazing drivers who go above and beyond to serve their communities.”

The driver declined to comment.

This wasn’t the first time a delivery driver has saved the day for a client.

In January, a Georgia newspaper delivery woman saw smoke coming from a home, called 911 and banged on the door to alert the family — which included, three adults, four children, four dogs, six cats and two bunnies. Everyone in the home survived the fire except for one cat.

In April, a DoorDash driver delivering a pizza in Massachusetts found a woman bleeding on the ground and helped save her life.

And in July, a UPS driver dropping off a package in Washington rushed to save a 7-year-old who nearly drowned in a swimming pool.
