Police checking on woman find her year-old body in home, California cops say

Officers checking on a woman whom neighbors had not seen for some time found her body inside a Petaluma home, California police reported.

The woman, whose body was found Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the living room, appeared to have been dead for at least a year, the Petaluma Police Department said in a news release.

Officers also found another woman, who said she was the deceased woman’s daughter, in a bedroom of the home in the 200 block of Windsor Drive, the release said. She was taken to a hospital to be checked.

The woman told officers her mother died in April 2021 of natural causes, the release said.

Neighbors reported to police that 20 to 30 packages were piled on the home’s porch and nobody answered the door, officers said.

Officers dispatched to check on the woman at 10;52 a.m. decided to enter the home when nobody came to the door despite repeated attempts, police said.

An investigation continues and the home has been declared uninhabitable, the release said.
