Bodyboarder dies during trip to Hawaii after he’s swept into deep water, officials say
A bodyboarder died after he was swept into deeper water during his vacation in Hawaii, officials told news outlets.
Bakir Shelesh, a 28-year-old from Glendale, Arizona, was bodyboarding at Wainiha Bay on Kauai when he lost his board and got pulled into deep water, the Kauai Police Department told the Star-Advertiser.
Officials found him face-down in the water and unresponsive, according to Hawaii News Now. Rescuers rushed to perform CPR on Shelesh as he was taken to a hospital in Kapaa.
Shelesh briefly regained a pulse, but was in critical condition, the Star-Advertiser reported. He died in the hospital Saturday, Aug. 6.
An autopsy will determine an exact cause of death, according to KITV. Officials didn’t say if Shelesh was boarding alone or with family members at the time.
