George Washington visited this historic 1,100-acre farm in Virginia. Now it’s for sale
A sprawling equestrian farm that’s flowing with history has moseyed onto the real estate market in Upperville, Virginia, for $27.5 million.
“Just several miles from Middleburg, the 12,500 square-foot-manor house at Llangollen, with its 17 fireplaces, nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms, surveys its 1,100-plus acres from a commanding central position in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains,” the listing on Realtor.com vividly describes.
The property has significant historical ties, which include “the prelude to Gettysburg” being fought nearby. It’s has even seen its share of powerhouse guests, including the first President of the United States, George Washington, and Gilbert du Motier — better known as the Marquis de Lafayette — the French aristocrat who fought in the American Revolutionary War, the listing says.
The property became a racehorse operation in the 1930s and now have a plethora of structures around its 24-stall horseshoe shaped stable including:

According to Realtor.com, the main manor – built in 1795 – was “once a patent house for the land grant of Leven Powell” and still stands tall.
“It’s been all restored, and it’s part of the house today,” listing agent Peter Leonard-Morgan told Realtor. “Gradually, the stewards who have had the home have just kept doing bits and pieces to it to bring it up to modern standards.”
Upperville is about 61 miles northwest of Washington D.C.
