Body found in Lake Mead near where woman vanished while jet skiing, park rangers say

A woman vanished in Lake Mead after she fell off a jet ski days ago, park officials said.

Now a body has been found in the same area.

A body was recovered near Boulder Islands on Nevada’s Lake Mead, the National Park Service said Wednesday, July 6. It was discovered near where a woman went missing June 30.

“National Park Service rangers and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue Unit located and recovered the body with the use of a remotely operated vehicle,” park officials said in the news release.

The county medical examiner will confirm the person’s identity and determine a cause of death. Park officials are still investigating the incident.

Officials began searching for a woman nearly a week earlier, McClatchy News previously reported. On Thursday, June 30, they received a report that two people fell off of a jet ski in Lake Mead, and one of them disappeared.

“One individual, a male, has been found while the second individual, a female, has not been seen since going into the water,” officials said in a news release. “Neither were wearing life jackets.”

Park officials didn’t disclose the woman’s identity.

Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the U.S., according to the National Park Service. It encompasses more than 750 miles of shoreline. In 2021, more than 7.6 million people visited the recreation area.
