SUV with nine teens inside tumbles down 50-foot embankment. All survive in ‘miracle’
An SUV carrying nine teenagers veered off a Washington roadway, rolled and tumbled down a 50-foot embankment, nearly falling into a creek before coming to a stop, local media reported.
All of the teens survived, Clark County Fire District 6 said in a Facebook post.
Six of them were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but “it’s a miracle that no one was killed,” fire officials said. In a video shared by the fire department, the SUV can be seen dented and on its side at the edge of the water.
The crash took place about 1 p.m. on May 19, KOIN reported. Witnesses told the outlet that the vehicle was driving erratically before leaving the roadway.
After the crash, all of the teens managed to get out of the SUV and climb toward the street, Oregon Live reported. Some of them were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, officials from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet.
Police told KOIN that they’re investigating the incident, and that the teens could potentially face charges.
Clark County is in far southwest Washington.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from McClatchy News.
