A South Carolina man was on his way to a home improvement store when he decided to stop and buy a lottery ticket.

The decision won him a $300,000 jackpot, lottery officials said.

Once the Midlands man bought the winning Psychedelic Payout ticket from the Sunoco on Broad Street in Sumter, he made a beeline back to his house — abandoning his home improvement trip, according to lottery officials.

When he got home, he surprised his wife, lottery officials said.

“I told her to ‘Come here, sit down and look at this,’” he told lottery officials. “I walked into another room and heard her screaming.”

The couple told lottery officials they would use their winnings to donate to a church and save.

The Sunoco got a $3,000 bonus for selling the ticket, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning the top prize in the Psychedelic Payout game are 1 in 1,000,000, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
