Angler dies in fishing tournament after boats slam into each other, GA officials say
Two boats involved in fishing tournaments collided on the Flint River in Georgia on March 19, killing one of the boat drivers.
A 2022 Xpress Center console boat and a 2001 Stratos bass boat collided in the area of the Boat Basin Park in Bainbridge, a city about 40 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
The operator of the Stratos died on the scene and the passenger was taken to a hospital, officials said. The boat driver and 16-year-old passenger in the Xpress were also taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The boats were involved in separate fishing tournaments, the Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.
“We have been trying to put into words the deepest heartfelt condolences for our fishing buddy, Mr. Jason Davis. We lost one of our Bass Anglers yesterday due to a boating accident. Our prayers go out to his family and friends,” Chattahoochee River Pot Trail Fishing said in a statement on March 20.
The agency said the incident is under investigation and could take a few months to complete.
“Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the anglers, boat captains, and everyone associated with the tournament,” Bainbridge Public Safety said in a statement on March 19.
