47-year-old Texas snowmobiler dies after crashing into a tree, Oregon cops say
A snowmobiler from Texas died after hitting a tree at an Oregon snow park, deputies said.
The 47-year-old man from Haslet, Texas, was found unresponsive Sunday, March 13, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon said.
He was riding about 1 mile into a forest near Wanoga Sno Park in Bend, Oregon, when he crashed into a tree.
“It was reported the injured rider, who had been wearing a helmet and protective clothing at the time had sustained serious injuries,” deputies said on Facebook. “He was unresponsive, and not breathing.”
An off-duty ICU nurse in the man’s group rushed to help the snowmobiler with “life saving efforts.” Snowmobile and medical teams also went to the area to try to help the man.
“Members within the injured riders party decided to load the injured rider onto another snowmobile and transport him out to the parking lot to meet paramedics,” deputies said. “Once the rider arrived at the parking lot Bend Fire and Rescue Paramedics continued life saving efforts.”
The man had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Deputies are investigating the crash, and the man’s name was not released.
