Mom of six ‘very sorry’ she walked out of CA restaurant with $4,000 bottle of liquor
A woman walked out of a restaurant with a bottle of alcohol worth thousands — and returned it days later, California police said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday, March 12, it was searching for a woman who was seen snatching a bottle of alcohol from the Grand View restaurant in San Jose.
Surveillance footage showed the woman walking behind the bar counter and taking a bottle from the back. She then walked out of the room, video showed.
Deputies said the bottle of alcohol is worth $4,000. A restaurant manager told KTVU the woman took a bottle of Louis XIII cognac that was 100 years old.
Days after it was taken, the bottle was returned, the restaurant’s owner told NBC Bay Area.
Someone showed up with the bottle to return it on the woman’s behalf, according to Bay Area News Group. It was still sealed when it was returned, and the restaurant doesn’t plan to press charges, according to the news outlet.
“With all the bad things happening around the world, from COVID to Ukraine, I decided to give her a second chance and not press charges,” the owner told NBC Bay Area. “She’s a mother of six who says she’s very sorry.”
