Chick-fil-A workers’ cars go up in flames as grass fire sweeps by, Oklahoma officials say

A “fast growing” grass fire spread to evergreen bushes near a Chick-fil-A before strong winds quickly carried the flames to vehicles in the fast-food chain’s parking lot, Oklahoma officials say.

As the fire swept toward the Oklahoma City restaurant near Interstate 40 and MacArthur Boulevard, fire officials say a “light haze of smoke” filled the restaurant at about 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21.

Responding firefighters “quickly evacuated” the Chick-fil-A, according to tweets from the Oklahoma City Fire Department. Thirteen people were evaluated for smoke inhalation and three were hospitalized for treatment. Officials did not say if those being treated were employees or customers.

Ten vehicles were ignited — all of which belong to Chick-fil-A employees, the fire department said.

Video from the fire department shows firefighters working to control the fire as the vehicles were completely destroyed.

The Chick-fil-A restaurant is temporarily closed.
