Ten injured after Pittsburgh bridge collapse left bus dangling, officials say
Ten people were injured when a snow-covered bridge collapsed in Pittsburgh, officials told news outlets.
Three people were taken to the hospital when the bridge collapsed the morning of Friday, Jan. 28, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.
The air smelled of natural gas in the area near Forbes and Braddock as officials urged people to avoid the area.
Photos posted to social media showed one car dangling near the edge of the bridge. Several cars and a bus were involved in the collapse, according to KDKA.
Port Authority told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette one of its 60-foot buses was “trapped on a slab of the remnants of the bridge.”
Officials told WTAE two passengers and a driver were on the bus at the time.
“It sounded like a huge snow plow … pushing along the surface with no snow,” neighbor Wendy Stroh told KDKA. “I didn’t know what it was … It was very frightening.”
The bridge goes over a ravine and creek near Frick Park, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
President Joe Biden is set to visit the city today to discuss infrastructure.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Biden was informed of the bridge collapse.
