Heroic dog named Henry helps save sick baby girl’s life in Connecticut, owner says
A heroic dog named Henry helped save a sick baby girl’s life in Connecticut, the owner said.
After the dog “kept breaking into the nursery and waking” the baby, the owner was getting fed up — “until she stopped breathing,” she said on Twitter.
Now, the owners of the 8-year-old Boston terrier, Kelly and Jeff Dowling of Glastonbury, realize that Henry has helped save their 9-month-old daughter’s life with his determination on Dec. 13, KTRK reported.
“She wasn’t clearing her airway. She started to turn blue and go rigid,” Kelly Dowling told the outlet of her daughter who was sick with a cold.
“We spent the night in the hospital. I don’t know what would have happened if he hadn’t woken her,” Kelly Dowling wrote on Twitter. “We don’t deserve dogs.”
In her post, she shared a Snapchat photo about Henry that she captioned: “He keeps pushing open the baby’s door with his battering ram head so he can sniff at her.”
The Dowlings brought their baby to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where doctors cleared what was causing her to struggle to breathe, WVIT reported.
Their daughter was doing “much better” on Dec. 14, Kelly Dowling said in a Twitter update, sharing a photo of Henry.
In a separate post, showing Henry wearing what appeared to be a black hoodie with the word “security” on the back, Kelly Dowling said, “Henry has spent the last two days being treated like the king of the castle, which—if I’m honest—is no different than any other day.”
McClatchy News has reached out to Kelly Dowling for further comment.
